Alan Smith

I have been fortunate over the course of my career to have worked on projects in the North East, across the UK and abroad. This has enabled me to build up a proven track record for the cost management delivery of projects from inception to completion on projects ranging in construction value and several in excess of £250million.

I have predominantly worked in private practice but have also gained valuable experience working for a contractor, national house builder and commercial and residential development companies. As a consequence of the diversity of the organisations I have worked for, I fully understand the importance of creating and working in a team environment to deliver the optimum outcome for a Client. I also have amassed considerable procurement and delivery experience and have a keen commercial awareness. This broader experience allows me to see things from a Client’s perspective and to mitigate project risk associated with funding, etc. and to maximise development income.

I pride myself on the quality of service delivery I have provided over the years to Clients which is why joining Atorus Consult Limited was an easy decision to make given our main objective is to deliver ‘best-in-class’ services to all of our Clients.

As a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Certified Accountant I have always had a continuous involvement with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and was a previous Chairman for Northumberland & Durham of the former Junior Organisation (now Matrics). I am currently Honorary Secretary of the local RICS 1947 Club which primarily assists and mentors younger members of the profession as well as organising regular CPD and social events. I especially enjoy training and developing entrants to the industry and progressing them through the APC process to Chartered status.

I like to keep fit and healthy and am a member of a local gym where I also enjoy swimming as well undertaking High Intensity Circuit Training at Speedflex Newcastle. I am also a keen runner and was previously on the Committee for Heaton Harriers. I regularly compete in races organised by North East Athletics Clubs, predominantly now under 10km but previously ran marathons. I was also previously a keen Skydiver for a number of years and a Microlight Flying enthusiast.
